Global Education on Semester at Sea

My Hopes:   

             Envisioning stepping off a boat, hearing new languages, smelling side street food off a market, and seeing sights I never would have imagined, this is what I expect. I expect to have my mind broadened by people who communicate with me through hand signals, and have my view on the world turned upside-down by the humanitarian projects that will get my hands dirty.

             And actually seeing these towns and new areas of the world with my own eyes rather than on a screen, will bring me back into realizing I am a small part of the whole, and hopefully it will put a new drive in my desire to change the world in some small, or big, way.

           While looking at the map that shows the distance we would travel, I cannot fully imagine how it will change me, but I do know it will change me. It will change me in ways I probably could not even conceive. I think that it will help me appreciate my own life more, and help me take the opportunities that I am given, as well as want to help others at bigger extent than donating my clothes or helping at food kitchen.

          This last fact is something that I want more than the others, and maybe seeing the world will help me convince others as well: that we can do something to change and help circumstances for people that do not have what we expect. Having this opportunity to be immersed in many cultures and to meet new people will expand my perspective of the world incredibly and hopefully will light my desire to effect the world in a positive way.

   BUT...

         However much I want to start on my path to seeing the world and see the things I can help change, it will take a bit of money to help me get there.

         I am asking for any help you would be willing to give to support my drive to further my education, both in the classroom with renowned teachers on the ship, but as well as a person with growing global perspective.

       Any help at all would encourage my determination to get on the road to my future helping to improve our global community.
