We are a Swiss couple who have built a friendship with Christian missionaries and humanitarian workers in Romania over the years. They're doing an amazing work in Medgidia and its surroundings (Dobrogea), one of Romania's poorest areas. We've visited several times, and all the poverty sure doesn't feel like a place in Europe...
Many children there have no future except in crime (i.e. human trafficking). Their having little access to good education – often not being able to read or write – means they haven't much choice.
The good news is a team of people are committed to see things change! They've already built a "community center" where they provide meals, showers, clothes, school support, etc. for a number of children (and their families) – see video from 2015. Only they're very limited for lack of space...
Now, they were able to buy a huge and old (!!) 5-floors building which they plan on converting into a school. The plan is to convert the 4th and 5th floors into appartments for rent so the school will self-support financially in the long run.
The only thing lacking at the moment is money to renovate the building, which is hardly in a state to welcome hundreds of children! About 17'000€ are needed for the doors and windows, which will be a great milestone towards fulfilling this great project!
We are very excited and extremely grateful to anyone who helps make this dream come true! It's impossible to measure the impact this will have on countless children and their families!
