A brief history:  Let me give you the very short version of a very long story... I'm the oldest of 6 children born to immigrant Mexican parents. My father started as an farm laborer and slowly worked his way up until he was able to buy a small piece of farm land which he know farms with my brothers. My mother was a full time stay at home wife and mother until recently never worked. Now she runs her own childcare center and is a certfied and licensed childcare provider and teacher. We grew up poor but never really realized that we didn't have money my parents made sure we had lots of love and always had food, shelter, and clothes. Although they were strict they always made sure we felt loved...

Unfortionately I went through a rebelious phase and after eloping to Vegas and getting married against my parents wishes I ended up divorcing my cheating and controlling husband. Unfortionately (and understandibly) my parents were upset and didn't welcome me with open arms after the divorce. Although my heart was broken I was not I started attending the local community college during days while I worked nights and managed to finish two years of school in one year and managed to be accepted at UCSD. I moved last fall with the little savings a posessions I had to San Diego in order to attend UCSD. I managed to get grants and loans to cover most of my tuition and figured I would work to pay for the rest of my costs and living expenses... unfortionately it hasn't worked out as planned.

How I got here: I have spent the little money I had saved and now find myself way behind in bills and debt. Finally I have found a job that not only pays a decent wage but also will work around my work schedule but my car has been repossesed so I am unable to get to work. I would need to pay $1600 in order to get my car back. I owe my roommate one month for rent $570, I owe $250 for my phone and share of utilities, I haven't been able to buy gorceries and basically have been eating thanks to free food events at school and thanks to my roommate's kind heart. I bought my books for this quarter on school credit so I need to pay $800 back before the 22nd of March so I can sign up for my classes for the spring quarter. I also owe some of my friends money (over $1500) and since they are in similar situations I feel really pressured to pay them back asap.

What I am asking for:  All I'm asking for is some help getting over this rough patch... I really believe that I can make it on my own if I can just get over this hump... I have done it before and I'm sure I can make it myself again.

Any help that you can give me in this time of need would be greatly appreciated.

Why I'm doing this:  I am attending UCSD I'm pursuing a degree in psychology with a minor in sociology. I hope to attend medical school after graduating. The reason I'm pursuing this is becuase I have volunteered previously at local community clinics and with organizastions helping AIDS patients and thier families... my goal is to help people like myself and my family who are of limited means and provide them with the best medical care while showing them that people care.
