Get Nancy Rollin On The Ranch

This fund raiser is to help purchase an All Terrain Senior Mobility Scooter to enable Nancy Poer, to get back outside and access the beautiful (but rugged) areas of her magnificent White Feather Ranch property, that have recently become inaccessible to her due to recent back-to-back injuries. These injuries include a broken pelvis and a serious femur fracture that required surgery with the placement of screws and pins. Although she has been recovering remarkably and is currently getting in-home physical therapy, these injuries, along with other age related complications, will long term limit her mobility, making it impossible for her to get outside and navigate the ranch. Family members have built a deck/landing outside the front door, with ramps which she was able to maneuver with her rolling walker this week, with the help of her Physical Therapist and myself. She was SO happy to be outside, breathe the fresh air, to feel the sun on her face and to have her feet on the ground But that was as far as she could go, due to the unevenness of the terrain. It was in that moment that I knew she needed a way to be able to access her favorite places on this 50 acre ranch… the barn that holds so many memories with her late husband Gordon, friends, family and all those who have attended events and her conferences (including me)… the greenhouse and biodynamic garden that has supplied an abundance of fresh vegetables and herbs… the peace circle where so much sharing and healing has taken place, Nancy is an outdoors woman. A horse woman (University of Arizona rodeo queen and all-around cowgirl!) A cattle woman, raising quality Angus cattle here on the ranch. A nature lover and Ally to the indigenous. She is a pilot, an author, an artist, musician… teacher and so much more. I have been staying at the ranch with her these past two weeks, (Nancy has been teaching me how to can, and we have been filling the pantry ), and when I take the walk down the long dirt and gravel road to the barn, or out to the orchard to pick apples, figs and persimmons, I feel, Nancy should joining me!! So I started researching how that could happen, and I found this amazing all-terrain senior mobility scooter that would safely allow her to accompany friends and family almost anywhere on the ranch. They are specifically designed for seniors with their safety, comfort and ease of operation in mind. When I told her about all that could be possible again with this little all-terrain vehicle, she was elated and moved to tears of joy! I ran it by her physical therapist and showed him pictures of the one we were looking at, and he said he said that she absolutely would be able to operated it!! He is so amazed by her strength! I know that those of you that know Nancy, are not at all surprised by her strength. And those that don’t know her, would want to! There is so much more to her than I could even begin to put into words here… she has so much life left in her and deserves to be living it to the fullest here on her ranch! She said to me once, “ I’ve tried to cross the threshold 3 times in recent years but I keep coming back… I still have work to do in this world.” And I am going to do everything in my power to help her do that “work”!!

Any additional funds raised, beyond the cost of what is needed for this fundraiser, will go towards other things that will help Nancy remain as mobile and independent as possible, such as widening access gate openings around the ranch, grading safe paths around the ranch, converting tub to walk-in shower in downstairs bathroom etc.
