Firstly, thank you for visiting our Page! Please read our story about our little cat Marley who is 4 years and 10 months old.

What Happened?

On Monday 25th August 2014, our little cat Marley managed to escaped from our window. Our flat is on the Top floor of a block of 8. I thought he was having one of his usual afternoon snoozes,  however when it came to the evening and we hadn't seen him for a few hours we searched the flat and started to dread that the inevitable had happened.

After searching outside I found him lying under a bush about 50ft from when he would have landed. He was crying and hissing and it was visible to see straight away he had broken his leg. He tried to get up to come to me but he couldn't manage he was in so much pain. We managed to get him to our Vets in Perth and they assessed him and took X-Rays. Then came the devastating news. He had broken both his front legs.

The problem is these are not 'clean and easy' fractures. On his left leg he has fractured his femur bone into little framents very close to his 'wrist' joint and on his right leg he has fractured his femur very close to his 'elbow' joint. The vets in Perth then broke the news that they were unable to operate because the nature of the fratures was too complicatedfor their abilities. They did however refer him to a Specialist Vets in Fife who may have been able to help. If they were unable to operate, we would be faced with the terrible decision to put Marley to sleep.

After assessing Marley, they gave him a 75% success rate so we decided to go ahead with the operation. After waiting for what felt like an eternity (24 hours) the Vets called us and advised although the operation was extremely challenging due to the nature of his injuries it was a success and he was pleased with the result. He has a metal plate and 7 screws in his left leg and a metal plate and 5 screws in his right leg.

How Will Your Donation Help?

Although Marleys operation was a success, he is unfortunately not out of the woods yet. The next ten weeks are a crucial time for his recovery. He must live in a dog cage and only be allowed out a few times during the day to walk about to help build his muscle and allow the bones to hopefully fuse together again.

The reason we are fundraising is due to the very high vetinary fees we will have to pay. The cost so far has reached £4000 and is estimated to reach £5000 by the end of his recovery time which will include Post-Op X-Rays, Check-Ups and medication.

Any donation no matter how small would be greatly appreciated, however for donations of £30 or more, I can provide a hand drawn portrait of your Pet (sent by post). A photograph can be send to me by private message on FaceBook and your mailing address can be given when making your donation. I have drawn Pet Portraits for years and it is a lovely and unique way to capture a snap shot of your furry friend to have for ever.

We got Marley from Cats Protection when he was only 11 weeks old and he is an amazing cat. He is very close to me and very affectionate. He is a huge part of our family and we need to do everything we can to avoid him becoming just a memory so early on in his normally happy and content life.

Thank you again for visiting our page. x
