Who we are: Gatis Gardeners are a small group of community minded individuals trying to save the site of Gatis Street Adventure Playground for community use. What we are doing: As the council are planning on shutting the building and playground down we are negotiating a short term license to try and bring this valuable resource back into community use. We will be holding regular gardening clubs to bring life back into the site and are planning a range of events, activities and clubs on site for community benefit. How will this help the community: We have specific aims of bringing our disadvantaged community together and take ownership of this resource with additional aims of bringing a varied and diverse local population together, reduce fear and lonlieness, help prevent crime in the area and bring about an ethos of caring and sharing. We will do this by providing: Community events, social clubs, community gardening, community cinema, skills sharing and the support and encouragement for people to realise their potential. What do we need funding for: We are working towards having access to the buiding under special license from the council but we are currently being held back by a lack of funds. Last year we managed to work onsite with donated plants/seeds/pots and compost which we managed but we struggled at times being unable to buy even the simplest of tools or more variety of seeds. We are looking to raise £500 over the next few weeks to enable us to make some vital purchases to get us off to a good start this year. A thank you: We appreciate any donation no matter how small and would also say if you have items that you could donate such as hand tools/seeds/plants/compost/big planters we would also appreciate those, even better if you could donate some time and come and get involved especially if you a local resident. Thank you for taking the time to read about our project.
