As an aspiring Doctor, a love for people and a passion for healthcare when I heard of the company "Gap Medics" and what they were offering for 16+ year olds, I was hooked from the first page of the site. http://www.gapmedics.co.uk/about-us/

"'Gap Medics' is a specialist company dedicated to providing year-round hospital work experience for medicine, midwifery, nursing and dentistry abroad to students 16 years and over. Our programmes in Tanzania, Croatia, Poland and Thailand offer people the opportunity to gain an insight into the work of doctors, nurses, midwives and dentists before you begin your clinical training. Not only will you receive beneficial experience to help with your university applications and interviews but you will also learn more about your future profession.

Around half of the placements we provide are in Tanzania, East Africa, as it offers an ideal environment for you to gain a truly comprehensive insight into the day-to-day work of healthcare professionals. It also offers a positivity exciting experience of exploring a new country."

From as long as I can remember I've always wanted to be a doctor, I have a natural caring and compassionate attitude in everything I do and a want to ensure the wellbeing of everyone I meet. A career in medicine is one of the most fantastic ways to achieve all that I love to do. "Gap Medics" runs the fantastic over-seas programme which would see me shadowing doctors in underprivileged hospitals in Tanzania. This experience will certainly have an impact on my entire life, through showing me the differences in healthcare and the lives of people from developing countries. The opportunities which I will have on this placement will mean that I would be gaining a greater incite into the profession which I dream of going into.
