Fuzzs Volunteering Kumasi Orphanage, Ghana

It has always been a strong desire in my heart to make a difference to people’s lives. My Auntie Seema who sadly passed away in 2012 was heavily involved in working and volunteering with orphans in a children's home in Bahrain, not only do I want to make her proud I'm keen to fulfil something she'd have dreamt of too. So I’m starting my journey by helping and volunteering in West Africa.

In February 2017 I will be travelling to Ghana to volunteer in an Orphanage for 3 weeks. I’m looking to raise as much money as possible towards my trip and to the orphanage. Like many developing nations, Ghana has a lot of children in care of orphanages. The children are orphaned due to loss of parents, abusive backgrounds and their carers not being able to afford to look after them.

The orphanage I will be volunteering at is located in Kumasi. The Children’s Home relies heavily on funding, donations and volunteers to keep it running. Many of the children at the orphanage are there because their mothers have died in childbirth, they’ve been abandoned, have unstable parents or are street children.
During my time at the Orphanage from Monday- Friday I will be:

- Teaching and educating the children
- Organising structured activities and games
- Helping the house mothers at the orphanage with general duties- cooking, cleaning, washing and running of the home
- Providing the children with love, care, dedication and attention
