Hello Supporters!

My name is Stefanie and I am seeking funding to continue my education toward becoming a licensed Nurse.   Although Nurses are in high-demand, there is an average wait of two to three years to enter a nursing program here in Michigan.   After a diligent search, I have FINALLY found a program without an extensive waiting list.  It will also accommodate a part time work schedule while completing the program.

This is a fast track LPN program sponsored through Oakland University at Riverview Hospital, in which I will be attending the January 2014 Cohort. The cost of the program is $8500 + $900 for books and uniforms.  I have already saved $1500.00 towards tuition.  The problem is that the tuition has to paid in advance. It does not allow for financial aid via federal funding. All money has to be obtained through personal and private resources.  I would GREATLY appreciate any donation in any amount that will help me on my educational journey!!!!!! Laughing

I am thanking you in Advance!!!

Here is a brief explanation on why I want to become a Nurse (which is also an excerpt from my entrance essay)

The first inclination I had to become a nurse was not immediate.  However, I always knew that I wanted to do something that involved caring for people.  My childhood was highly influenced by examples of serving, and caring for others.  My mother was a teacher, along with her two sisters. My grandmother was a school social worker, my aunt a minister, and my father was a company officer, providing essential services and training to the community.

When I was in the fifth grade, I was fortunate, to participate in a program called, The Future Doctors of Tomorrow, sponsored by Wayne State University.  This was a very hands-on program, exposing inner city youths to the field of medicine.  It also gave a bird’s eye view of the educational background and training needed to become a doctor.  It was a fascinating experience, which left me with a burning desire to know more about the field of medicine.

During my years at Cass Technical High School, I focused my efforts in advanced level classes in Science, Math and Technology, along with English and Writing. I graduated with an endorsed diploma in Chemical and Biological Studies.

After graduating from high school, I decided to work a few years before continuing my education.  My personality and technical skills helped me to find employment and a comfortable fit in the Customer Service Industry.  It was now time to begin the next phase of my educational journey; therefore I enrolled in the Medical Assistant Program at Ross Educational Center.  I completed the program and state test for certification, afterwards I externed at Groesbeck Occupational Center.  Each day of my training was very fulfilling. I loved every aspect of the business, especially servicing the patients.

At the completion of my externship at Groesbeck, I had decided that my education would not end there, but that I would pursue a career in nursing.  In spite of my diligent efforts, I was unable to secure a job as a medical assistant, due to a lack of on the job experience, therefore, I returned to the customer service industry.

I believe that it is not by coincidence that I have successfully worked in Customer Service.  I have come to realize that many of the same characteristics needed to service my customers, are the same needed to service patients.

I want to become a Practical Nurse, because I realize that nurses are critical components of the health care system.  While doctors determine the health care plan for patients, a nurse helps to execute the plan and serves as a liaison between the doctor, the patient, and the family. Being caring, focused, helpful, dedicated and committed are characteristics; I believe a professional nurse should possess.

I am Caring, and as a nurse my goal will be to make the healing process as painless and comfortable as possible for the patient.  I am Dedicated, and as a nurse, I will deliver the quality of care to my patient that is focused, calm, level-headed in order to quickly handle a multitude of problems effectively.  I am a Strategic Thinker, and as a nurse faced with a plethora of situations throughout each day, I will have the ability to service each patient and their individual problems with the best method for a particular patient.  I am Professional, and as a nurse, I will have to take care of patients from a variety of ethnic and religious backgrounds.  I will bring a high level of respect and sensitivity to the specific requirements of various cultures and religions in order to facilitate the patient’s health care.

I believe that I will be an excellent addition to the Nursing Profession.  I feel that my years of experience in customer service, will allow me to contribute excellence, as well as a high level of patient care.  I am ready to make the difference to those in need of care, compassion and encouragement.©
