BABY'S STORY
On Friday morning, (October 21st) a Good Samaritan reported seeing a cat in distress in Berwood Park in Vadnais Heights. The cat's head was against a tree about 30 feet away from the parking lot. It reportedly had been in this spot for hours. Observers described the cat as lethargic and severely matted with a bad odor.
I discovered the cat around 2:15 and with the help of another concerned person in the community (Bridget), we loaded her into a carrier, and I drove to the Emergency VMC at the UofM. Fortunately, they found her condition to be stable, with no apparent injury or illness. They released her to me and advised me to get her looked at by my veterinarian ASAP.
GETTING BABY HELP
I called Silvervine Cat Clinic in Woodbury on Monday and they graciously agreed to see her that day. Along with her extreme obese state the other dangerous issue was the thick, heavy mats that covered her body. Dr. Mekka believes she was neglected for at least a year. They began work on the mats that afternoon. Because it's painful to have them removed, they needed to give her pain medicine and several breaks. By day's end, half of them were gone. The more difficult areas required her to be put under general anesthesia the next day.
BABY LOOKS AND ACTS LIKE A CAT AGAIN!
Baby is a naturally friendly cat that gave everyone head bumps and purrs at the clinic. They loved her there!
CAN YOU HELP?
She's reported to be 14 and has obvious limited mobility due to her weight and arthritic condition. I'm hopeful that once her physical ailments are addressed, she'll make a turn around and enjoy whatever time she has left.
Dr. Mekka recommends she be given Pro Plan Veterinary Diet for overweight management. (prescription) and Meloxicam (anti-inflammatory med) for her arthritis.
