funding for Falkirk ME Self help group

On the 8th of June, I shall be taken part in the colour me rad 5k run in Edinburgh.

I would like to raise as much money as possible for a group close to my family.

The falkirk ME self help group

CFS and ME has affected my family, my sister suffered from CFS when she was at high school and my uncle how was a very fit and active man got stuck down by ME.

The group is based in falkirk and was set up to provide support information and friendship to sufferers carers and friends of both ME/CFS sufferers. It offers a varied programme of gest speakers and open evening coffee morning, which all provideds a good opertunity to chat with fellow sufferes/carers plus they have the odd occasional social event. In addition every member is sent a email or a letter posted out to them to keep them in the loop every month.

So what is CFS and ME CFS = Chronic fatigue syndrome ME = myalgi encephalomgeltits

Cfs and me is a condition where you have long term disabling tiredness. Most people with it also suffer from one or more other symptoms such as muscular pains joint pains disturbed sleep pattern poor concentration headaches.

The cause is unkowen but it is thought that the following could contribute to it. Viral infections, exhaustion, mental stress, depression, a traumatic event ( loss divorice redundance), low immune system, an imbalance of hormones. It is thought that 250000 people in the uk have it. It can effect anyone young or old male or female.

What are the aims of the Falkirk ME self help group

1 to provide support an information 2 to help reduce isolation and where possible to promote the health and well being 3 to increase the awareness in the general public relating to ME.
