I got accepted into NYCDA (New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts) in Manhattan for the Bachelor’s Degree Musical Theatre program. I have a huge roadblock with the finances at the moment. I can’t take a bank loan in Singapore as my father is in debt, my mom isn’t working and I can’t be my own guarantor. None of my relatives are willing and most of my US friends don’t have the financial capability of being my guarantor as well. I can’t apply for FAFSA or most education loans in the US as i don’t have a social security number and I need a co-signer who is a US citizen.
Plus a lot of local (here in Singapore) scholarships are non-performing arts related and are for local studies only and international scholarships are also non performing arts related or only $300-$1000 which isn't not enough. I would need about 200K SGD to cover my education costs. Basically if I don’t have a guarantor I can’t go to college, be it local or international. Even the admissions staff said it's nearly impossible for me to go to college at this point.
Broadway has been my dream since I was first exposed to musical theatre as a child. I decided from an early age that I wanted to do musical theatre despite being the "weird kid" that listens to Broadway showtunes and spends hours watching musical movie adaptations and live concert recordings. I’ve already graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts and gotten my theatre diploma and now I’m hoping to pursue my degree in musical theatre. It really sucks that I can't further my education doing the only thing that gives me passion and drive in life.
If you do decide to fund my college education, I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart. No words can express how grateful I will be to you.
