What is the event all about?

Freedom for Birth is a 50-60 minute documentary about the abuse of human rights in childbirth around the world. The documentary has been made by a couple based in the UK, Toni Harman and Alex Wakeford, who were inspired to make documentaries about childbirth following the difficult birth of their daughter 4 years ago.  The documentary features many of the world's leading voices on childbirth including Ina May Gaskin, Michel Odent, Sheila Kitzinger and many others working to highlight how women are being denied the right to birth as they wish.

Freedom for Birth is not just a documentary however. It is a campaign to raise awareness of what is happening in maternity services across the world. It is a call to action with the hope that from watching the documentary and talking about what you have seen and heard, you can be part of the change that needs to happen.

Why the Mill?

We hope that, by screening the film in a public space, we can reach people who may not be aware of the issue. Of course, we also want as many members of the Natural Parenting - Waltham Forest group to attend too so would like to have the screening at The Mill in E17. The Mill gives us the space to have a larger group than can be accommodated in someone's home, it has a children's area for those who wish to bring young children and it's central to Waltham Forest.

So what do we need.......

We need the funds to make this happen. The room hire is £50 (we aim to hire the room for 2 hours) and the screening pack is approximately £26. This includes the download of the documentary and promotional material. We do not want anyone to pay more than they can afford and are hoping that by raising the money upfront, we can make the screening free for all.

Just in case you're not yet convinced!

September is the one year birthday of the NPWF group. Think of your contribution as a gift to the group to wish it happy birthday!!!

Lastly...

Thank you for reading and for any amount you are able to spare for this cause.
