Forest for Jakub Balaban

In the past few days I have been thinking of ways I can commemorate my brother who passed away unexpectedly on June 14th, 2020. The path he choose in life was not an easy one, nor was it easy for those who cared about him.

However death is not a final state, but a transition to another one, a transition that we will all have to make one day. I want to commemorate his life not with more death, but with new life instead.

So instead of bringing cut flowers to his funeral, which in a short time will wilt and die, I have decided to buy trees for him instead.

I will be donating money to this organization – Místo pro přirodu- which buys up land and forests in Czech Republic and allows them to return to their natural state, untouched an unaffected by our constant need to intervene and shape it to our own desires. Who knows what kind of a person Jakub would have grown up to be if he had been afforded this same opportunity.

If anyone wants to join me in this endeavour, I have set up this fundraising page so that we can give Jakub a small piece of a forest.

From the earth we came, and to the earth we shall all return.
