Albay was ravaged by Super Typhoon Rolly (international name: Goni), the strongest landfalling tropical cyclone on record, just a week after it suffered devastation from Typhoon Quinta (international name: Molave). As of November 2, Rappler reported that fatalities were at least 14 already from municipalities and cities of Guinobatan, Malinao, Tabaco City, Daraga, and Polangui alone according to the Office of Civil Defense Region V (Bicol). In addition, thousands of families were displaced. Several areas of the province have no electricity and water supply. What is even more urgent is that many poor families, especially farmers, may possibly experience hunger because of the agricultural losses from Rolly and Quinta which adds to almost Php 2 billion high-value crops including rice and corn. Approximately 20,000 farmers were affected by the damage that Rolly left said Agriculture Secretary William Dar.
Thus, the aim of this donation drive is to provide emergency food assistance to the Albayano families who were devastated by the said calamities. We plan to provide a $10 worth of food package per family which will contain the following:
$5 - 5 kg of rice
$3 - canned goods
$2 - snacks and water
Our brothers and sisters in Albay need us now more than ever. We are humbly appealing to your generous hearts for support and financial assistance. Together, let us contribute so that we can help in the recovery and rehabilitation of one Albayano family at a time.
