Fired by Honda for being with Father during his Surgery

My father had a surgery on his back because he was injured a few years ago. He had to have a surgery on the day of the meeting when I was working for Honda/Acura at a local location near me. They were introducing the "ALL NEW 2013 HONDA ACCORD" and it was urgent I had showed up.

I immediately called my boss to tell him that I cannot make it to the meeting due to a surgery for my father, and he said, "We will talk about it when you get here". Thankfully, the surgery went well, but Doctors stated, he had a 80% chance of death. When I brought him home, I went to work the next day and was "SUSPENDED" for a week. It was out of my hands, I think any son or daughter or family member would have done the same thing... Family/Health comes first. After the suspension was over, I received a text stating I needed to come pick up my final check. I was devistated, and felt hopeless.

I couldn't tell me father I lost the job... So everyday I went out and started working on projects to raise the rent money. I did it for the first 2 months, but now I am out of time. I couldn't face my father and tell him I lost my job and cannot pay the rent money because I was with him during his Surgery time. 

Did I do the right thing? Your funds are well appreciated. I hope I can meet the deadline (Dec 10, 2012). Sorry for the long story, but its been hectic. I never thought I'd be in this position, but it has come and I have to face the consequences. Thank you for listening and considering backing me up on this one.
