FINDING FREEDOM | Events Week 2023 | Southampton University Christian Union

SUCU is raising money toward a target of £5000 for Finding Freedom, our 2023 Events Week from 13–17 Feb 2023.

Every year, we reach out to our campus with a week of lunchtime and evening talks. We will engage with core cultural issues, discuss society’s biggest questions about Christianity and share the gospel in engaging, relevant ways. SUCU Events Week is the best opportunity each year for a Southampton University student to hear, inquire about and respond to the good news of Jesus Christ.

Ollie Lansdowne (Student Minister at All Souls Langham Place) and Hayley Marchant (Highfields Church Cardiff) will join us for the week. They will talk about how Christianity relates to various social issues at lunchtimes and on how the gospel interacts with people’s lives in the evenings.

We want to host Finding Freedom in a prominent and accessible venue close to or on campus. In the past, this has meant either hiring a space or a marquee. This year, hiring a marquee will be the primary expenditure of the week, along with a small proportion on publicity. We will also spend an amount on food, as we want to bring people into a relaxed and welcoming setting where they can meet Jesus for themselves.

The total cost of the events week is £8,000. (This breaks down to ~£5,000 for a marquee, £2,500 for catering, and £500 for publicity and other costs.) While our existing fundraising efforts cover a part of these costs, to make our vision for Finding Freedom feasible, we need to raise a further £5,000. Our current fundraising efforts include raising over £2,000 from CU members at our Weekend Away in Oct 2022 to contribute toward both Finding Freedom and our regular outreach events.
