Campaign Story
Hey everyone!
My name is Mary Mynatte, and I'm a fashion designer and artist living and
working in NYC. I'm also a transgender woman, which is a very important
part of my identity.
I started my transition about 5 years ago, and within that time, I’ve
gained a great sense of pride in who I am, and have been so happy to
experience self-actualization in a way I never imagined possible. I
began hormone replacement therapy (estrogen) at the start of my
transition, which has done wonders for my mental wellbeing. Now that my
mental health has improved, I have been able to take time to focus on
continuing my transition, and am very excited for the next step: FFS.
Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) is an umbrella term for surgical
procedures which are performed on a transgender patient to
“feminize”/soften the features of their face, which are traditionally
read as “masculine” characteristics. This surgery is something I had
always hoped for, but never imagined as a possibility, as it is
incredibly expensive.
I recently met with the surgeon who I am hoping will perform my
procedures and am looking to raise my surgery and OR/anesthesia fees
which total $17,200. In addition to my surgical fees I am hoping to
raise an additional $3,000 which will help cover the cost of GoGetFunding
fees, transportation, and recovery post-OP.
Before surgery I will be working very hard to produce items to sell in
preparation for being unable to work during my recovery, but having that
additional financial security will alleviate a lot of the anxiety that
will accompany being unable to work in the time following my surgical
procedures.
FFS will help to relieve a great amount of the gender dysphoria I
experience on a daily basis, and I’m so looking forward to the day where
I can feel comfortable leaving the house without feeling insecure about
how I look. Additionally, this will help provide me with a degree of
safety that I don't currently have as street harrassment and violence
due to my gender identity and presentation have been a persistent issue
throughout my transition.
Any form of contributing to or sharing this campaign is so utterly appreciated. I have so much gratitude for all of you.
Love, Mary Mynatte
