Felix’s Cancer Treatments

Dear Friends, Family and associates,

Cancer has always been a difficult word associated with sadness, in my own father's passing, in our friends and relatives, but it hits the hardest when the word comes from my own husband's mouth.

As some of you may know, Felix has been diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma in April this year. It is a rare type of cancer that attacks the nose and throat, with potential to spread throughout the body. Although it's rare in the rest of the world, this cancer seems to run rampant throughout SE Asia, and in particular, here in Hong Kong, a city with the highest number of cases. Scientists have yet to identify the exact cause of this cancer, but it's been strongly linked to the mutation of the Epstein-Barr virus.

In Felix's case, he was already at an advanced stage 3 when the cancer was discovered, with a large tumor located behind his nose attacking the base of the skull plate, with some spreading into his neck and lymph nodes, although the oncologists strongly believe he has a very good chance of beating this cancer, the regiment of chemo cycles (9 weeks) then chemo + radiotherapy combined treatments (7 more weeks thereafter) will be very aggressive, and will take a massive toll on his body. He's strong, but will take all his mental and physical strength to overcome this in the months to come, then the recovery will be a long road of 6-12 months.

However, we are regretful to share this news in this way with everyone, but unfortunately the medical bills have already taken a massive toll on our resources and Felix will not be fully operational for work, so without asking for help from his friends and network, it'll be an even tougher road ahead for little Asher and our family in the next 1-2 years to come.

We've put together an estimate on the medical expenses to come, along with treatments, scans and further tests during his impending recovery, which we strongly believe he will get through, as he will beat this cancer. I am creating this page to ask for any help possible from his network of friends he's made over the years and other kind souls out there, to help raise some much needed funds during this difficult situation. It's difficult to believe this is now our reality, happening to the kindest and most generous man I know, who has done so much for our family, for his mates, and for the causes he has believed in. Felix has been an active supporter for childhood cancer fundraising through the St Baldrick annual head shaving event over the past 10 years, and this shouldn’t be happening to him.

We really appreciate your kindness and throwing a life line to help our family. No words can explain our deepest gratitude.
