Thank you for taking the time to read this. I know it's probably a long shot..but i know it's worth it.
I live with a family (who i've known for a long time, i consider them my family). There's a mom and dad and 4 kids...ages ranging from 5 to 15. They're very poor..i mean like way below the poverty line. But they've always made the best of what they got. The dad works for the landlord in exchange for a roof over their heads and about 40 bucks ((if that)) a day to feed the entire family and pay for daily necessities.The dad's been working for the landlord for over 7 years now, and over time the landlord's become a major slumlord.
In the past year the water got shut off, unexpectedly. The water bill was in the landlord's name, and sent to his house and he neglected to pay it for almost 2 years...and never mentioned it to the family. The water company absolutely will not budge until they are paid the $2000 he owes. So they've had to haul in water in 55 gallon drums for the past year. They've made it work, but then right when summer started the gas got shut off. Meaning NO HOT WATER. Since it was summer it was manageable, because it was hot outside. But now it's getting cold..and the water is FREEZING.
But it gets worse. Just a month ago, the mother was arrested for shop lifting. Now please open your mind a little bit. Shop lifting IS NOT OK. But she did it only to keep her family afloat. She's a good person, not a criminal..but beause of the family's situation and hard times, she felt that she had to do that..and it landed her in jail. And sadly, she wont be coming home until august of next year.
Because the mother is incarcerated i've sort of stepped up and took on the responsibilty of taking care of the kids..while the dad goes to work every day. They're awesome kids...they all have the best personalities and they remain optimistic even through the toughest times. They deserve the world..and believe me, if i could i would give it to them. I'm giving this a shot in hopes that someone out there can give these kids the simple everyday things so many take for granted. Like hot running water. It would mean the world to them. Anything helps. And will be GREATLY appreciated.
