Families Helping Families – Syria 2016

We are a group of six Toronto families who have joined together to bring a Syrian refugee family to Toronto. By now, you've both seen and heard of the horrors facing Syrians both at home and as they flee for safety. Our role, as sponsors and supporters, is to take a family that has already been assessed and approved by the UN Refugee Agency and help them settle in Toronto. Once they are here in Toronto, we are responsible for them for 1 year. They will not be eligible for social assistance of any kind until they have been living here for 12 months. That's where you and I come in.

If you would like to help us help this family by donating even just a few dollars, we would be immensely appreciative. They will not have any jobs or housing lined up, little to no possessions or savings from home, and they may not have much more than the clothing on their backs (and it can get quite chilly here!). This means that, when they arrive, they will only have the SIN Card and Health Card that they were given upon entry to Canada and that is it.

Any donation that you are willing to provide, no matter how small, will go directly towards helping the family start living the life they deserve - free of terror and full of possibility. Every dollar that you donate will help us:

• Pay for rent and groceries so that they have shelter to live in and food to eat
• Provide furniture and clothing
• Cover medical expenses
• Enroll them in ESL classes so that they can excel at work and school
• Offer educational materials for the children
• And many other necessities of life in Toronto.
