Campaign Story
Right now, there are several children at a school on the southern coast of Africa, who are, for a variety of reasons beyond their control, unable to pay their school fees. Covid-19 has not been kind to parents as several have been retrenched or have had to swallow salary cuts. Their children's education is hanging in the balance.
Nobody cares more about a school than its past pupils so the alumni of Port Alfred High School, scattered all over the world we are inspired by our school's motto: FACTA NON VERBA - DEEDS NOT WORDS and are doing what we can to help. By contributing to the Facta Non Verba Support Fund we are honoring the school where we made memories, where we grew as citizens and where we made lifelong friendships. We are also paying it forward for generations of learners to come.
Our aim, as alumni, is to raise 50 000 Euros to provide scholarships and resources for learners who are both deserving and in true need of assistance.
Much has changed in South African education since the advent of democracy in 1994. The Department of Basic Education now only pays for 50% of the teaching staff salaries and provides a small subsidy per child, per year. Furthermore, the State does not provide infrastructural support. Fundraising is therefore essential to improve and upgrade essential educational resources such as the library, the IT Lab and sporting facilities.
School fees literally cover the operational costs needed to keep our proud school, Port Alfred High in its long-held position as a center of educational excellence in the Eastern Cape, the poorest province in South Africa.
950 Euros is the average cost of school fees for one pupil in 2020. Whatever you can spare will be greatly appreciated and will be put to good use! #DeedsNotWords #EverOurPridePortAlfredHigh
