My beautiful 18 year old daughter, Emma, started to have seizures on 27th August 2018. Out the blue she had 3 seizures in one day.
We rushed her to a government hospital in Durban, South Africa. After waiting in casualty for 2 hrs and 45 mins, she was seen by a doctor who took bloods and sent her for a chest x-ray. There were no beds in casualty as there were people waiting to be admitted to wards from 48 hours before. So we sat in a plastic chair for 7 hours and tried to sleep.
We then got sent to another area to be seen by a doctor. Where we waited for another 2 hrs. We saw a doctor who admitted Emma, but there were no beds in the hospital, so she waited 5 more hrs before being given a bed in a ward.
She spent 2 more days in the hospital, no washing, except for a basin, no pillow provided and windows that wouldn't close. She was seen by a doctor once.
She was released with medication for Epilepsy. After 9 months she has had no tests, the CT machine is still broken and she was admitted for continued seizures recently for 10 days. Again, no answers just increased medication and maybe a CT scan when the machine is fixed.
As we have had no scans or tests to find out what caused the seizures or whether it is actually epilepsy, we are desperate to try and get Emma to see a Neurologist and have the tests and scans done privately.
We would like to raise enough money for Emma's appointments, the testing to find a diagnosis and cause as well as the medicine she needs to help.
We would appreciate any donations to help us reach our target as soon as possible.
We are grateful to those who donated in 2018, and we have raised half the money for the MRI. This campaign has been re-opened, in order to raise the rest of the money needed
