This is extremely hard for me to post because it's out of character for me to ask for help, but today has been one of the hardest days in years, and I friend suggested to do a go fund me, so here we are. I woke up to my fur baby Elvis unable to walk, lying in a puddle of his own urine/blood mix. I instantly lost it and called a friend who works with vets. She had me check the color of his gums/tongue which were white, she told me to get him to the hospital immediately. I brought him to Golden Valley pet hospital, they instantly took him back, and moments later came back with heart breaking news. She told me he was jaundice, his liver was shutting down, his bilirubin levels were through the roof, his red blood count was only at 16%, he would need transfusions (possibly for as long as he were to live), along with auto immune medications. She told me there was only a small chance that he would survive judging by the condition he was in. they said I got him there just in time and their hope was they would be able to stabilize him but no promise. They decided to send us to a 24 hour clinic otherwise he'd have to be transferred at 5am. So we were sent to Eden prairie pretty hospital, they did blood work, x-rays, catheter, and IV immediately. Thank God she came back with better news than the first doctor. Elvis ate something which is out of character for him. It was a piece of metal containing zinc, which is toxic to dogs and causes sudden extreme anemia, and all the symptoms he was experiencing. They started a blood transfusion immediately so they would be able to put him under for an endoscopy and extraction of the piece of metal. She expects for him to be back to normal by tomorrow evening. However this evening around 9pm I received another call. Elvis is not responding to the transfusions, his blood count is not at 13%, even worse than when we arrived. He's already had 3. He's in liver failure now, bilirubin higher then before. He is in need of care around the clock. He's still unable to walk and his blood sugar levels are extremely low (which is uncommon for a dog his age) and he has an elevated heart rate. If you can help in any way shape or form, even if it's just sharing this and spreading the would, it would be appreciated. We're already up to a $6700 bill as of the 9pm phone call. The bills have just gotten so out of control I didn't know what else to do. Elvis is Gabe's best friend and another child to me. Thank you for all the prayers and thoughtful messages. Words of encouragement are definitely needed at this time. ❤️
