My name is Charlotte; I am an international wildlife biology student, from South Wales. I am currently in my second year and in the first stages of dissertation planning for my final year. I have loved animals all my life and ever since my dad took me to his home, Africa, I fell even more deeply. It is this love that has led me to an ND in animal management, and then to my current course, the only course which offered units outside of the UK.
After visiting Africa with my family, seeing how beautiful life is out there and how poaching and the black market has impacted the ecosystem, I wish to go into conservation. This is where my dissertation choice becomes important.
I intend to raise as much money as I can to allow me to travel to Africa again to take part in a dissertation project through a renowned company, Operation Wallacea. Through opwall, I intend to take part in the following research project:
SP262 Calculating the carrying capacity of the Pongola Reserve for elephant populations.
The whole of Africa is struggling to complete with the black market and poachers. This dissertation is a stepping stone the control of animal numbers and conservation of an ecosystem; this will allow me to put forward new ideas to help tackle management issues for the future of the reserve and conservation of the area. These in turn will open doors for me to start bigger projects to help with the conservation and management of elephants in other areas.
Without the proper conservation and management the elephant can and will be lost for the future generations.
The money raised will allow me to take part in this project, and also for transportation costs. This will help me to complete my thesis for my third year project and allow me to start on my path of the conservation of wildlife worldwide.
Any help I receive along the way will be highly appreciated, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
