I am a 91 year old woman in need of financial assistance for my assisted living costs. When my husband of 67 years died 4 years ago, his retirement was not passed along to me and his illness over the last 8 years of his life ate up all our savings, and now I only have Social Security to pay all my expenses. Shortly after my husband died, I fell and broke a hip and, at the direction of my doctor, had to move into an assisted-living facility.

When my husband became ill, my daughter reduced her work hours in order to take care of him and take him to weekly treatments the last 2-1/2 years of his life. During the time she took care of my husband and me [she did all the cooking, cleaning, shopping, laundry, managed our medications (which were extensive), took us to all appointments, etc for both of us], she was forced to use much of her savings to pay her living expenses.

Since I have been in the assisted- living facility, my daughter has paid $90,000 towards my care and now her home is in foreclosure - she makes sure all my needs are taken care of before her own). My daughter is at work during the day and I am unable to be alone so the assisted living facility is the best and cheapest answer for me. I have made more friends there than I have made in the last 40 years and I feel safe and cared for 24-hours a day. Because I don’t need skilled nursing care, neither Medicare nor Medicaid will give me assistance.

Please help me - I feel terribly guilty that my situation has put my daughter in such a horrible financial position. I pray every night that the good Lord take me so I am not a burden to my daughter (even though she never complains - “I’m just doing what needs to be done because I love you” is her response). She has sacrificed for her mother and father and doesn’t deserve to lose her house. After Social Security, I need $2,000 a month to pay my own way. I never thought I would be in such a situation as this. My husband and I worked hard our whole life and we planned for getting older but not elderly and definitely never planned for his illness. Please help me...
