Elderly people of Donbas Ukraine needs help

According to the UN, 3.5 million people in Donbas (eastern Ukraine) continue to need humanitarian assistance.

A third of them are people over 60 years old.

Due to the ongoing crisis in eastern Ukraine, elderly people suffer the most, according to areview of the humanitarian needs of the region compiled under the auspices of the UN.

Ukraine occupies a leading place in the world in terms of the number of elderly people affected by armed conflict in one country.

Older men and women face serious difficulties in accessing basic services, as they are characterized by a higher level of disability and limited mobility, and they are often separated from their families.

They have special needs for medical care and nutrition, they are very vulnerable economically.

More than half of the people experiencing food shortages are elderly, and nine out of 10 elderly people in the territories controlled by Ukraine rely on a pension as their main source of income, but this income is not sufficient to cover basic needs (the average pension is $130-140): more than half is spent on medicines and more than a quarter on food.

The increase in poverty and unemployment as a result of the conflict affects the standard of living of the population and creates risks for people's health, since the lack of financial resources forces them to make a choice between purchasing food and medical care.

Access to food is also a problem due to active hostilities, especially for 16% of households located near the demarcation line.

We are launching a fundraising project for elderly people in the Donbas of Ukraine.

With the funds raised, we plan to purchase medicines, food, fuel briquettes or firewood, clothes for the elderly.
