Campaign Story
Based on the statistics on the recent Education for All (EFA)report, Nepal is amongst the countries that are very far from achieving the adult literacy target (<80%), with illiterate women making up 66% of the illiterates.
Education has the ability to improve people’s chances of a healthier life and economic growth; therefore, an educated mother can help save the lives of millions of children as well as effectively contribute to the family economically. Additionally, literate mothers would act as a learning support for the children while at home.
Consequently, this April 2014, I’ll be joining a literacy program for women in Kathmandu with Volunteer Service in Nepal (in partnership with Global Volunteer Network). Beyond English and numeracy, the ladies are eager to learn about women’s health and hygiene, small business management tools, etc; therefore I’ll need to pull together funds to provide as much learning materials as possible, as well as cover some of my expenses.
I am excited about this opportunity, and with your help these women can be empowered to affect their society positively.
Thank you very much!!
