Educating Children and Women in Southern India, Chennia

Hi Everyone,

I am so appreciative of the opportunity to ask for help with a project taking place this summer.  I am a student at the Adler School of Professional Psychology located in Vancouver, B.C. where I am completing a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology.

My name is Chrisoula, I am currently living in Canada to pursue my degree as a psychologist in counselling.  I am an innovative and self-motivating young woman with strong work ethics and a passion for success and making a difference in the lives of others.

I have the opportunity to travel to Chennai and embark on a journey that will enable me to work alongside rural communities to foster global change and care through counselling psychology and crisis services for women and children.  I am asking to raise $3,500 CDN to travel to Chennai, located in Southern India in the region of Tamil Nadu.  

Over the course of four weeks, I wish to positively shape the lives of women and children by volunteering my time at the Banyan in the region of Tamil Nadu.  The Banyan is an organization changing the face of mental health care in India.  I am offered a position to support the agency in creating programs and services for women and children who experience mental health concerns.  I will be assisted with a translator to communicate my efforts, and I am also actively learning the Tamil language to better support the people I will be connecting with.  I will be working with community psychologists and social workers to enrich the lives of victims through counseling services and crisis intervention, as well as develop treatment plans.

I experience a feeling of purpose and fulfillment when I speak out about my passion for fostering care and change through global community engagement!  I am able to practice my knowledge and skills to empower and promote positive mental health for women and children.  These experiences will be life changing.

The trip is happening for the month of August 2014 and I am looking to raise $3,500 CDN in less than 30 days!  The funds raised will be used towards my travels expenses to and within Chennai, and a modest accommodation for me to reside as I complete my work. I sincerely appreciate all the support I can get. 

The most incredible part of this mission, is the support of sharing the vision of fostering global care and change.  I will be reporting and sharing my experiences through photography and writtingto bring back to Canada with me.
