Campaign Story
According to the Association of South Africa Women in Science & Engineering less than 40% of South Africa's scientists, engineers and technologists are women. The level of female representation in STEM fields is not only "alarmingly low" but also on the decline. Numerical under-representation, gender bias & negative stereotypes contribute to negative environments for women & continue to block women's progress in STEM. This project will support 150 disadvantaged girls pursuing STEM courses.
As women are vastly underrepresented in STEM fields in South Africa, to close this STEM gender gap, the project will bring together stakeholders in empowering and educating girls in Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM) through collaboration, sponsorship, advocacy, raising awareness to policymakers, discussion forums, outreach events; mentoring and coaching to disseminate information to encourage and inspire elementary school girls to consider a career in STEM related fields.
The project aims to increase and support the participation of 150 disadvantaged girls in South Africa in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Measures will be taken to address the disparities between male & female students studying STEM based program by providing incentives & mentorship programs to women. The participation of girls in STEM fields is essential, but unfortunately throughout history, female participation has been consistently lower than that of men
Your donation through this project will educate 150 disadvantaged girls in STEM. As girls become women, they can transform local communities & act as role models for younger girls. Equipping them with STEM skills will offer a return on investment for society, communities & also go a long way in ensuring that our country compete globally, create jobs, & achieve the levels of economic growth that will buttress South Africans' standard of living & social safety net. This has a long term effect of spurring economic development
