Hello and thank you for visiting my page,
Partnered with the Epilepsy Foundation Of Florida we present EDM For Epilepsy; it is a campaign that is using Electronic Dance Music as a platform to raise money to further epileptic research. The event is February 08, 2014 and 80% of the profits made from the entire event will go to the Epilepsy Foundation Of Florida. Epilepsy is a neurological condition, which affects the nervous system. Epilepsy is also known as a seizure disorder. It is usually diagnosed after a person has had at least two seizures that were not caused by some known medical condition like alcohol withdrawal, extremely low blood sugar, heart problems or some other medical condition. Sometimes, according to the International League Against Epilepsy, epilepsy can be diagnosed after one seizure, if a person has a condition that places them at high risk for having another , 65 million people worldwide have epilepsy, it is even occurring more in infants. After a patient is just recovering from a seizure the after effects may lead to coma or even death. There has been strides of surgery for those with focal seizures but there are many more strides that need to be made. I say that because I am an epileptic I have been for 15 years now and I would love to be able to be seizure free for the rest of my life. There are many types of seizures some may be familiar with but all of them are not well known;
Commonly Used Names for Seizure Types
Seizures are generally described in two major groups of seizures, primary generalized seizures and partial seizures. The difference between these types is in how and where they begin. A new way of naming seizures has been developed by epilepsy specialists, but most often these common names are still used.
Primary generalized seizures
Primary generalized seizures begin with a widespread electrical discharge that involves both sides of the brain at once. Hereditary factors are important in many of these seizures.
Partial seizures begin with an electrical discharge in one limited area of the brain. Many different things can cause partial seizures, for example head injury, brain infection, stroke,tumor, or changes in the way an area of the brain was formed before birth (called cortical dyspepsia). Many times, no known cause is found, but genetic factors may be important in some partial seizures.
Partial seizures can be broken down further, depending on whether a person’s awareness or consciousness (the ability to respond and remember) is affected.
I can tell you from personal experience that after having a seizure and an EMT asking you what your name is and you don't know the answer has to be the most frightening thing to ever happen to me and other epileptics. Or looking next to my sister after a seizure and jumping back because I didn't know who she was. This amnesia doesn't last long... at least in my case but, I know that with your help other epileptics and I will wake up one day and feel the freedom of not having side affects from medication, headaches from stress and in my case stuttering.
Your donations will be used for all aspects of making this event possible from procurement of the acts, advertising and most importantly making EDM For Epilepsy a not for profit organization. We want to continue to have concerts so that more money can be raised to further our cause to spread awareness of epilepsy across the country, so that one day a cure can be discovered so that no infant, child or adult will ever have a seizure again. I truly hope that you now understand the reality as well as the hope and strides that have and will be made with your help, to make everyone’s life with this affliction and their families have a better life. There has never been an event like this using Electronic Dance Music to raise funds so you would be apart of something really special. So I hope that you will donate what ever you can to make my dream a reality.
Thank you again for visiting and have a FAB day,
