Ever since I was a teenager, I always knew something was wrong with my face, I constantly questioned myself, “Why don’t I look like my family members?” I always felt unattractive and awkward due the length of my face. I’ve grown my hair out; colored it, wore extensive makeup, but I have never been comfortable with my face shape. I recently went to a dentist because I was chewing the inside of my jaw, only to learn I have a medical condition called Long Face Syndrome due to mouth breathing as a child. The lower part of my face grew longer than it supposed too, resulting in an abnormally long face and recessed chin—along with narrow jawline. To fully correct these problems: I need braces, jaw and a chin reduction surgery to improve my facial and dental abnormalities. However, these surgeries will cost over $40,000; they are not covered by my insurance and no matter how I try, I will never be able to raise the money for my surgeries. I have sought second, third, and fourth opinions from specialists and half of the doctors agreed I should have all the surgeries; the other half told me to just fix my chin because the surgeries are extensive and I’m over 18 so the bone structure is harder to correct. I have decided to pursue chin reduction surgery for $5000, although this surgery is cheaper, I still can’t afford to pay for it. I hate asking others for money, but I don’t see how I can achieve the desire to have a normal face shape without seeking help from others. I really need this surgery so I can stop hiding from the world and to have personal freedom from negative criticism. Living with facial abnormalities is hard, my face is the first thing people see when I walk into the room, I don’t want people to keep calling me names due to my face shape, or reference me by my face shape. I admire women who were born with a feminine facial shape and I desire to have a more functional face shape. Please support my campaign and help me receive relief from a medical condition that was no fault of my own.
