Down and out in Palm Springs

Why is there no help for the American born citizen that has not brought children into this world that they cannot afford?  I have been employeed since I was fifteen years old.  In 2011, I was laid off.  I have not been able to find work since.  I have applied for anything and have been willing to work for $8.00 per hour after making $19.55 per hour.  I can get no assistance because I am single and have no children.  I have had to move in on my mother and occupy a bed in her living room of a one bedroom apartment.  She is on a fixed income, but is expected to pay my expenses, in the eyes of the government.  My cause is not as dire as many out there, but the shame and humiliation is almost more than I can bear.  If the help cannot come to me, maybe it will come for someone else in the same situation.
