Don’t let them be hungry in hospital

Aim of this campaign is directed towards modern feeding standards of critically ill pediatric patients. I am trying to raise funds for buying one Cosmed Q-NRG+ indirect calorimeter (Read here more about Cosmed Q-NRG+) for National Children's Hospital in Croatia. Indirect calorimetry is gold standard method for calculating real time nutrition needs of patients. Prescribing nutrients in precise real time settings is vital for all critically ill patients and especially when dealing with pediatric patients. There are more than 40 math formulas for doing manual calculations, but only real and precise manner is by using indirect calorimeter. The machine uses inspired and expired gas to calculate exactly how many calories, proteins, carbs and fat patient needs in that moment. This is especially vital for burn patients which have high metabolic demands which are hard to predict using any of manual formulas and calculations. Burn patients most easily get underfeeded in any ICU without indirect calorimeter. Unfortunately, this type of equipment is quite expensive and since there is manual way it is not first on the list of priorities in Croatian health service. I am medical doctor, working as a resident in anesthesia and intensive care in Children's Hospital in Zagreb. All the funds will be withdrawn directly to the Cosmed's official distributor in Croatia. Fully equipped Cosmed Q-NRG+ for the ICU setting costs around 20-25 000 EUR without Croatian VAT. We need to pay 25% Croatian VAT (since our country has no understanding for crowdfunding) so ti will be around 30 000 EUR in total. I am still waiting for the final quote from Cosmed's local distributor. This campaing is strictly for Croatian National Children's Hospital and if raised more than enough all the remaining funds will be donated to the ICU.
