What’s been happening to teenagers since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic?
Delivering a good deal of change as well as insecurity, COVID-19 has not only shaken up global markets and economies, but, more importantly, it has altered the everyday life of families.
Sad to say, financial and health-related uncertainty does generate a tense atmosphere at home, which might result in heated arguments, verbal or even physical abuse. To make things worse, children, whose social space has been significantly reduced, oftentimes find themselves jammed between edgy, intolerant parents and the severe pressure of cyberbullying due to the increased amount of time spent on the internet.
Desperate children, having not been advised on how to handle this, might suffer numerous long-lasting psychosomatic traumas leading to damaged social and mental health.
Kamasztér Foundation is aiming to abort this deepening problem by means of creating a safe social space, where abused teenagers can acquire various problem-solving techniques whilst surrounded by supporting adults and kids with similar backgrounds.
We would like to present them with a different kind of Christmas gift - not one with fancy boxes, but with new friends, experience and skills that will accompany them throughout their lives.
Who and how do we help?
We believe that every child has the right to grow up in physical, emotional security, to be loved and cared about. Kamasztér Foundations reaches out to abused or bullied children in Hungary by enhancing their self-esteem, emotional intelligence and introducing them to stress management methods in form of free workshops and a final summer camp. We aim to reach children who would otherwise never have the opportunity to take part in such an experience, where they can get to know themselves and each other better, while improving their emotional intelligence as well as social and healthy coping skills amongst others.
According to our calculations we could organise events and the summer camp for up to a 100 children, costing us 300 dollars per capita. We, however, would like to emphasize that the coordination, organisation and the execution of our programmes are done by volunteers who receive no money at all.
The total sum of the donation is covering
- children’s participation fee at our workshops and summer camp
- maintenance of [email protected], the platform of our online chatting service
- advertising costs
- training and supervision of volunteers
