Doktora Eğitimime Başlamak İçin Desteğinize İhtiyacım Var!

Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi, Okul Öncesi Eğitimi Bölümünden yılında yüksek şeref öğrencisi olarak mezun oldum. Çok yakında da yine aynı bölümden Yüksek Lisans derecemi alıyor olacağım. Lisans eğitimim boyunca İstanbul ODTÜ Mezunlar Derneği bursiyeriydim. Lisans ikinci sınıf öğrencisi iken, Johann Wolfgang Goethe Üniversite’sinde staja kabul aldım ve burada yazdığım bildiriyi sunmak üzere, Avrupa’nın oldukça prestijli matematik eğitimi alanındaki kongrelerinden biri olan CERME 9’a kabul aldım. ( https://cerme9.webnode.cz/ ) Prag’da gerçekleşen bu kongreye bulduğum destekler ile burslu öğrenci olarak gitme imkanı buldum. Katıldığım bu kongreden sonra Almanya, Amerika, İngiltere ve Güney Kore'de uluslararası kongrelere yine burslu olarak gitme imkanım oldu. Mezuniyetimin ardından TEV Yüksek Lisans Bursiyeri olmaya hak kazandım.

Yüksek Lisans yaparken, kendi alanımda gerçekleştirmek istediğim ve çocuklar için eğitimde fırsat eşitliği yaratmayı amaçladığım projem ile 2018 yılında Hamdi Ulukaya Girişimi Programına başvurdum. Programa başvuran 7489 girişimci adayı arasından ilk 24 kişi arasına girerek, New York Üniversitesi’nde gerçekleşen girişimcilik eğitimine katılma fırsatı buldum. En büyük hayalim başarılı ve kendisinden sonra gelenlere yol açacak olan bir akademisyen olmak. Bu nedenle mezuniyetimin ardından Yüksek Lisans’a başladım. Ayrıca, hem kendimi borçlu hissettiğim hem de okuluma benim de bir katkım olsun diye bir burs grubu kurdum. Kurmuş olduğum burs grubu ile bugüne kadar ODTÜ’lü 10 öğrencinin eğitim masraflarını karşıladık. 10 kişi çıktığımız bu yolda şimdi 50 kişilik bir burs grubuyuz. Çoğunluğunu yeni mezun ODTÜ’lülerin oluşturduğu grubumuz ile şu anda üç ODTÜ’lü öğrencinin öğrenim masraflarını karşılıyoruz.

Geçtiğimiz dönem, Doktora eğitimimi tamamlamak üzere South Carolina Üniversitesine başvuruda bulunmuştum. Kabul mektubum bana geçtiğimiz hafta ulaştı. Lisans yıllarımdan beri en büyük hayallerimden biri doktora eğitimimi Amerika’da yapmaktı. Bu nedenle bu haberi aldığım için çok mutluyum. Ayrıca, üniversite bana asistanlık imkanı da sundu. Asistanlık almama rağmen aşağıda belirttiğim kalemler için desteğe ihtiyaç duymaktayım. Amerika’ya giderek eğitimime başlamak için gerekli ön masrafları, uçak bileti ve orada yapmam gereken ön harcamaları ne yazık ki karşılayamıyorum. Değişen kur durumu bu konuda önümde bir engel teşkil ediyor. Bu nedenle Ağustos Ayı itibari ile bir kaç aylık yaşam masraflarımı da ekleyerek hesapladığım miktar için desteğe ihtiyaç duyuyorum

Bu güne kadar yaptığım birikimle talep ettiğim desteğin bir kısmını karşılayabiliyor olsam da kalanı için desteğinize ihtiyacım var.

My name is Gizem Solmaz. As a high honor student, I graduated from the Department of Early Childhood Education Program at Middle East Technical University (METU), located in Ankara, Turkey, which is one of the top-ranking universities in the country. One of my dreams was to be an academician since my first day at university. I've worked hard to achieve this goal. I was a scholarship student in my undergraduate years.

When I was a sophomore, I was accepted to Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Germany to complete my internship. During my internship, I wrote a paper which was accepted to a very prestigious mathematics congress in Europe, CERME 9( https://cerme9.webnode.cz/). However, it was impossible for me to meet the costs of Congress at that time. For this reason, I wrote to all the institutions that I could, and I attended this congress with the support I found. Until my graduation, I attended many different congresses abroad and thanks to the support I received, I approached my goal. I've always been so grateful to the people who helped me.

Last year, I applied to Hamdi Ulukaya Entrepreneurship program https://www.ulukayagirisimi.com/girisim-destek.htm... opened by Hamdi Ulukaya, owner of Chobani yogurts in the USA. I qualified to be a finalist out of 7449 participants. My dream was to set up an online training platform that would create equal opportunities for education for preschool children and work with machine learning. As soon as I graduated, I established a scholarship group with the support of ten of my friends. Now, we have a scholarship group of fifty people including my instructors, friends and even their friends. By this time, we have covered all the education costs of ten undergraduate students. We hope that his scholarship group will continue to increase year by year. I established the scholarship group and the students who were accepted to the congresses like me, and also the students who had difficulties because of the financial insufficiencies were supported by our scholarship group. To date, we have had the opportunity to send scholarships to a total of 10 students.

Last semester, I applied to University of South Carolina to complete my Ph.D. I received the acceptance letter last week. One of my biggest dreams since my undergraduate years was to do my Ph.D. in the USA. Therefore, I am very happy to receive this news. I also received an assistantship position.

• University tuition fee I have to pay for the semester: USD 1,867.00 ( $6,825 per full-time semester but I have a 5.000 USD grant)

• 10 Monthly Living Cost: 9,000 USD (Approx. 17,000 USD stated on the school's website, but the school will give me a salary of approximately 8,000 USD with deductions within the scope of my assistantship)
• Visa fee DS160: 160 USD
• Service Fee: 90 USD
• I will pay for the accommodation in the first month: 600 USD

Total: 12.307 USD

I cannot afford the necessary expenses, air tickets and pre-expenses that I need to go to the USA to start my education. The exchange rate between Turkish Liras and Dollar is a big obstacle for me. Therefore, I need support for the amount I calculated by considering a few months of living expenses. Being able to afford a part of this sum thanks to my savings, I need your help for the rest!
