The independence training centre for young people and adults with disabilities.

We want to open a living skils training centre in east london for young people with disabilities and we need your help.

We have worked with children, young people and adults with disabilities for 25 years and have extensive experience working with people with autism and learning dificulties especially those with complex needs.

Our experience working with people with disabilities in day centre environment has motivated us into opening a new daycentre where we believe we can provide a service within the day centre environment and in the wider community that provides activities that are specific to the needs and preferences of the individual, that promotes independence in their lives and promotes an interest in the world around them.

In principle what we want is a day centre where people with disabilities can come each day or whatever hours they choose and learn skills for life.  These skills they will be learning will include communication, social interaction and independent living skills.  The activities we will be providing are designed to give people with disabilities more independence in their lives and improve and maintain their quality of life.  The centre will offer our users a secure and safe environment where they will be able to learn basic skills such as  brushing their teeth to more complex tasks such as cooking meals, money management and shopping, which will equip them with the life skills they need.   Our users will be able to learn skills at their own pace with appropriate support when they need it.

We have been looking for a building suitable for our use but the initial funding is proving extremely dificult  therfore we decided to try the go funding rout as a means to help with the funding of this project.

Specifically we need additioanal funding to supplement our own funding to pay the rent for the building.  We also need funds to help with resources.

The building we have in mind is recently refurbished and has a disabled toilet but no kitchen.  We need a kitchen for coking lunches and for teaching basic cooking skills.

We need to build a sensory room for individuals with sensory impairments and complex needs.

These are the basic requirements that we have at the moment.

Service user payments will be met through direct payments , social service care package and private or voluntary funding.

It takes between 3 to 4 months to secure a placement for individuals throughsocial services and before we can recieve placements we need to have the centre up and running so that potential clients and carers can view and see what we are offering.  In theory this could mean that we have an empty building for up to 4 months but we still have to pay the rents ect. This is what we really need help with.

We are not asking for specific amounts but we would appreciate any help that you can give no matter how small.

If you need any additional information then please contact us.
