Tyler Fletcher will be serving a mission for the LDS church for the next 2 years, beginning in September of 2016.

Tyler was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes Mellitus- Insulin dependent when he was 11 yrs old. For several years it was difficult for him to manage his diabetes effectively, but he was able to qualify with a non-profit organization to receive an Omnipod Insulin pump. Which is a pump/glucose meter that he place the carbohydrate number that he has eaten at any meal and it calculates and dispenses the appropriate amount of insulin through the "pod" that is attached to his skin.

This has made all the difference in the management his diabetes and his quality of life. His eligibility for health assistance ended when he turned 19(which was this month). He is currently using 10 disposable pods/ month. They cost $520 per box of 10. I have seen on diabetic blogs that he might be able to get a "cash pay" price of $250 per box of 10. And for this reason we are trying to raise $6500 hundred to keep him using the pod system for the 24 months that he will be serving his mission.

There are alternative insulin delivery systems(Syringes or insulin pens), but this system has made so much difference in his control and management his mother and I were hoping to be able to keep him on the Pump.
