Dexter is a 1 year old Chihuahua cross Terrier and like many other small dogs he suffers from Patellar Luxation.
We rescued Dexter from an illegal irish puppy farm at just 5 weeks old. The pups were being sold as 9 weeks old and fully vaccinated, but when asked for proof the breeder would make up excuses as to why he couldn't provide evidence and he didn't know the name of the vets they were vaccinated at.
Dexter was in quite a bad shape when we got him, he was suffering from a bacterial infection caused from being infested in fleas and left in unsanitary conditions. This led to his fur follicles being so weak from the infection that they started to fall out especially on his face. He couldn't sleep, play or eat without scratching, he would only walk a few steps before having to stop and scratch. This is a lot to go through for just a 5 week old puppy.
Despite this ordeal Dexter is a very happy, well socialised dog, he is very intelligent, socialable and loves everyone and everything.
Patellar Luxation Is a condition where the patellar/knee cap dislocates/moves from its normal location which can cause discomfort and the inability to straighten the leg completely.
Dexter has had x rays done at 11 months old which confirmed he suffered from Patellar Luxation. His condition is only going to get worse which can lead to cruciate ligament damage. He suffers a lot with his condition which is quite unusual and so this operation is his only option to improve his quality of life.
Dexter has helped me through so much and I owe it to him to give him a better quality of life without him suffering in pain.
If you could spare any little pennies to help towards the cost of Dexter's knee operation, I would be forever greatful. The current estimation for just 1 knee to be operated on is around £2000, any spare funds left will be donated to an animal charity chosen by yourselves.
Thank you for any help you give, even if you can't donate, please share so others can!
