Debbie Bezemer

Debbie is a single mom who has worked very hard to overcome multiple barriers; illness, loss of employment due to cutbacks, housing instability and now breast cancer.

Debbie fights every challenge with a fierce heart, dedicated to maintaining a normal life style for her and her son. She found a job, she overcame her illness and she now has a wonderful, warm home. Just as it seemed that everything was coming together she was dealt the recent blow of learning that she has breast cancer.

Again she faced this challenge with her usual fighting spirit. Debbie noticed a change in her breast at least 2 years before the final diagnosis. She had 12 mammograms, 2 ultrasounds and an MRI. None of these showed the cancer that she could feel. She stuck with it insisting that there was something there. Finally, a doctor was able to feel the lump and performed a biopsy. Her worst fears were realized. She had a cancerous lump in her breast. There was hope that it was only contained to the lump. However, after a lumpectomy it was determined that the cancer was invasive and not only one but both of her breasts would need to be removed.

Debbie has only recently re-entered the work force and acquired a home of her own for her and her son. Her medical benefits are not enough to cover the costs of her mastectomy and the loss of pay she will endure because she doesn't have FMLA. She has come through so much and has never lost faith. Debbie showers love and affection on all who know her. She helps everyone in need whether she has the means or not. She would give the shirt off of her back to someone in need with disregard for her own personal comfort. She has worked so very hard to overcome so many hurdles but now she needs help.

The costs after deductibles, co-insurance and work time loss are projected to be well above the amount we are asking for here. Any amount you can give will be greatly appreciated and help Debbie to sustain the stable life that she recently regained for her and her son.
