David Van Wyk Fundraising Drive

This post is in response to the requests made by friends of David van Wyk to assist with his Medical Bills. He consulted a General Practitioner on Sunday 20th December 2020 and was prescribed medication, this resulted in him making the decision to go into self-isolation for 7 days. His temperature kept spiking to 40 degrees and dropping. On the 24th December 2020 he consulted the same General Practitioner and requested to do a Covid-19 test. Unfortunately, his condition got worse and he was admitted to hospital. They ran another Covid-19 test and it came back positive. He is seriously ill due to Covid-19 complications.

He is currently being treated at a private hospital. We are unable to give more information about the hospital, due to death threats he has received in October already, due to hostility from some quarters about his work with poor mine impacted and affected communities. His medical bills are piling up. He’s got medical insurance with a maximum of R60 000-00 which have been depleted, he does not have a medical aid.

We, therefore, wish to appeal to anyone who has been touched by David Van Wyk (affectionately known as Oom David to many of his Facebook friends) or have been inspired by his way of life, writing, and social involvement, to feel free to contribute whatever you can to assist him with his medical bills.
