Campaign Story
Hi, my name is Zama and I am my mother's only child. In January 2019, my mother randomly collapsed and was immediately admitted to Groote Schuur Hospital, where a neurological operation was performed on her spinal cord, as she could not walk.
The doctors had said that she would heal within SIX WEEKS - it is now the SEVENTH MONTH and my mom is still bed ridden and using a catheter to urinate because the operation had caused bladder in continence.
My mom heart-brokenly was also diagnosed with cancer and is currently on stage 4 lung cancer and we cannot afford to pay for her treatment, as she is the breadwinner of our family, in terms of being a contract teacher. My father has been unemployed for majority of his life and I am just a student at Stellenbosch University, not earning the amount needed to assist with my mom's treatment.
I’ve been up and down trying to fight for my mother’s life, doing research and trying to stay sane, but sadly we do not have and cannot afford medical aid and being in a public hospital is very strenuous with a lot of negligence.
This has been a very difficult and a never before experience for myself and my father and on behalf of my mother as well, we would truly and deeply appreciate all the help we can possibly get. God had been manifesting himself through people slowly and I’m very grateful for that. We just need a bit of more help and yours could save a life, my mother's life.
I hope to have my mother make it to my graduation and many more beautiful occasions she dreams to be in.
