Update on Daniel Jaco Louw's recovery: Since the 16th December, quite a lot has happened, no surgery on 17th as planned, but xrays done and a visit to the urology dept, 20th - fantastic news, the External Fixation on the pelvic area was removed as the pelvis has grown on miraculously by itself - proving and reminding us yet again the power of prayer! 23rd - the Physio now really getting serious with exercise program, but Jaco taking it a bit slow..., 25th - Christmas lunch in hospital joined by family..., 27th - back to theatre for debrivement and doctors started with skin grafts, 28th - had first proper hairwash since 8/11 , beard shaved and haircut, 1st Jan - New Year lunch in hospital bed... 2nd Jan - as we speak, he is in theatre for debrivement, thank you so much for all the visitors over this period, all the videos received for 2020 wishes, he really enjoyed every one😀 Then again a big thank you for all the donations received so far, your continued support and prayers🙏🏻
Daniel was involved in a terrible motorcycle accident on 8 November 2019 in Bangkok Thailand with a truck. There was a limited Insurance cover, however this did not cover all the medical expenses thus far to date due to the serious nature of his injuries and the doctors confirmed that his full recovery process will take months.
This happened in Bangkok where Daniel is a full time student studying a 3 year degree to become an English Foreign Language Teacher.
Injuries he sustained:
30x30cm degloving injury on his abdomen all the way round to his back.
4 breaks of his lower pelvis and 1 break on upper left pelvis bone which currently have been secured with external fixation.
A tear in his urethra, left lung was punctured and 3 ribs broken.
Multiple areas where skin has been taken off completely (Buttocks, hip and leg)
Multiple subcutaneous bruises.
He has had 6 skin surgeries in Bangkok and this procedure would need to be repeated every few days until all infection have been ruled out and skin properly healed, only thereafter the pelvic operation can be performed.
He will also need physio therapy for full rehabilitation.
When he arrived at the hospital in Bangkok, he was on assisted breathing.
This government hospital where he was at first is not able to perform the pelvic operation and various applications were made to a number of other government hospitals where it could be done, however there were no available beds and for that reason and bigger support structure in Cape Town, Daniel was transferred from Thailand to South Africa on 4 December and is currently in Tygerberg Hospital.
Update: Since the original update, Daniel has arrived in South Africa and had his 7th skin operation on 6 December.
Friends and Family are asking for any donation that could be made to aid Daniel.
For any donations from persons in Thailand only, payments can be made to:
014 - 3 - 23056 - 2
Mr. Daniel Jacobus Louw
