Making Spaceflight Safer with Vocabulary & AI Knowledge Models

This living project will contribute to society's space sector by developing information models to support safe spaceflight.

• I'm building a suite of knowledge models (classifications, conceptual data models, ontologies, terminologies, and metadata) to support spaceflight safety, data, and artificial intelligence (AI) applications for astronautics.
• Reusable vocabularies that can become standards for the global community (example products: astronautics vocabulary), and can be applied in computational contexts. And the harmonization of distinct terminologies.
• I also give extensive volunteering and service-to-discipline in (inter)national committees and groups. This has been in my own time while needing opportunity, not supported by any paycheck or company, and therefore pure service.

The project supports spaceflight operations, data applications, space situational awareness (SSA), and orbital debris remediation by developing models to help with the search, retrieval, fusion/integration, annotation/tagging, automated reasoning, and access of spaceflight data. This may support AI-based solutions to resolve challenges such as the orbital debris hazard, and improve space environmental sustainability. These activities, and the resulting ontological products, aim to improve standards and become standards for the global astronautical community.

History

This effort has been unfunded since its origin in 2011. I've written 20 articles in my own time, without support, and out-of-pocket. I've also been actively searching (and applying) for employment and study opportunities to do the work expressed in my papers and website, and continue my education on these topics. Sadly, people with established careers and extensive resources have used my ideas, with documented evidence of plagiarism & IP violations, but I have not been afforded opportunity to realize my project vision. Since 2011, I've wanted this personal project to be a PhD thesis for myself, and I continue to apply to PhD programs. So I need your support to sustain development, and help get back the lost family savings. I am also open to: formal collaborations and partnerships, working on your similar project, mentors, grants, funded co-authoring, and business ventures, to do this sustainably.
