Coping with illness and saving for a home

This page is to try to raise money for chronically ill Amy and her boyfriend, who are trying to save for their first home but have some obstacles in their way.

A teacher from London, Amy hasn't had the easiest journey through life. She has been battling chronic illnesses for 10 years, while always helping others and pushing herself to the absolute limit in everything she does.

When Amy was 14, she developed an unknown bowel condition that causes her to experience excruciating abdominal pain on a daily basis. Years later, Amy then developed widespread pain all over her body as well as extreme fatigue. After 10 years doctors still aren't sure what is wrong, but it is clear Amy's condition is getting worse. The likely diagnoses are Fibromyalgia, Joint Hypermobility, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and IBD. Not just one of those - all of them at the same time.

Amy does her best to live life as normally as possible but it's hard - living in London, Amy can't afford to work part-time even though that's what her body needs. She could move away but needs to be close to her family for physical and emotional support.

Being chronically ill can be expensive, with countless prescriptions, taxis because it hurts to drive, walking aids such as a cane and many other expenses illness throws your way.

To buy a home, Amy and her boyfriend need a deposit. They are saving as much as they can while managing Amy's illnesses, but need a house with bathrooms both upstairs and downstairs for Amy's needs as well as suitable accessibility for when walking is difficult. Add that to London prices and Amy is chasing goal posts forever.

Amy is a big believer is the goodness and kindess of people. Even with her disability she always wants to help people. Amy always looks for silver linings... Maybe you can be hers?
