Help Thiesh Moodley in Cycling For a Purpose and raise awareness on Stroke.

Thiesh Moodley is Avashna Moodley’s son, a stroke survivor. Avashna Moodley suffered a stroke 12 years ago. Having experienced the challenges facing stroke survivors, Thiesh will be cycling in the Amashova Durban Classics on 22nd October 2023 in tandem with World Stroke Month to raise awareness about stroke and raise funds for stroke survivors at Coming Home Organization.

The funds accumulated from these generous donations allow CHO to send medically trained nurses and caregivers to patients' homes to check their vitals, along with other professionals to help patients rehabilitate. That includes speech therapists, physiotherapists, and social workers who help assess the patient's needs and assist. CHO also sets up support groups that patients can attend either virtually or in person. Outside of medical care for chronically ill or bedridden patients that is provided, the organization also provides them with monthly food parcels & wellness days where the organization will educate the patient and their family on the risks related to their situation, along with how to lead a healthier, and improved lifestyle.

South Africa is one of the most unequal societies in the world, where the wealthy have access to quality private healthcare while the majority (over 80%) depend on under-resourced public health. Coming Home was set up to provide quality health care to those who are generally excluded due to the high cost of private home-based care. Our community-based projects are geared towards solving the health challenges identified in communities, hence we respond to real needs. We achieve this through working in partnership with existing government health infrastructure such as hospitals and clinics to provide a multidisciplinary service each month to the most under-resourced clinics in the Durban area.

CHO is taking community-based care to the next level by improving patient satisfaction and readmission rates. Our a home-based model many consider the future of health care, allowing patients to heal in an environment of their choice. Donations are the heart of keeping the organization running. The more donations CHO receives the more lives we can help, and the more resources we can provide.
