Child Essentials – Helping Lanzarotes Children in Need

Im sure many of you have heard of the economic crisis that is devestating families all over Europe, currently in Spain about 30% of the country's population is unemployed, but even more so in the Canary Islands at almost 35%, and it continues to rise. Entire families are unemployed and living all together in their grandparents/parents homes as they have run out of government benfits and depend on eachother to feed their families. Currently Calor y Cafe, the local soup kitchen that also assists with hand outs of clothing amongst other things, are currently helping over 100 families and 70 HOMELESS people, and thats a huge amount for such a small area. Thousands of people are losing their homes and everything they have, more and more people are being forced out onto the streets and the government continue to demolish illegally made homes and destroying peoples lives. The situation is so bad that many childrens only meal in the whole day is the snack the schools provide, a carton of juice and a couple of crackers. And this devastates me, being a mum myself. There are many families who don't have much right now, and luckily my husband and i found an opportunity here in canada. I know what everyone is going through over there, because i lived it, and being a mum myself drives me to want to help these families. The government is cutting down on peoples benefits and the churches have run out of food. This is not a third world country but lets help avoid it turn into one. Please help.
