So, let me start off with an intoduction of myself.
My name is Eugene Marais and I am a CrosFitter… What does that mean? It means I have found a way to keep on moving and maintain and improve my standard of living. Let me explain…
Way back in March 2013 I was involved in a serious motorcycle accident which nearly cost me my life.
Now, at the time I was a very active mountain cyclist, and have been most of my life. This all grinded to a screeching halt after the accident.
I was told my by the Doctors that I would never walk, run, or cycle like a normal person ever again, due to the damage in my right hip and left knee, in addition my right hand and forearm was completely scattered, so I was told I will never grip, hold or pick up anything normally again, especially anything heavy.
Long story short, after intense physical treatment I was a bit better, to the point where doctors could no longer do anything for me. That is when I discovered CrossFit and it changed my life.
I did a strength and conditioning program at first which was aimed at rehabilitating my body, 4 years later and you will never even notice I was in an accident unless I tell you!
Now, the reason for my project, is to take the same form of training to the public, There are a lot of CrossFit Gyms out there already but I want to be different. I want to cater for every single person, wheatear you are in a wheel-chair, overweight, underweight, or need to rehabilitate from an accident like myself, improve your sport, or just improve your life in general. I want to be the coach who rights the program and teach you how to follow it, with sound movement and competency.
CrossFit can also change the lives of our youth, where physical activity and the challenge of doing functional movement mechanically right, endorses a neurodocrine response, helping kids do better in class, improving their academics, making for a better future. The great thing about CrossFit is that it is not a competition. Every person develops at their own pace making you, your own competition.
The end goal for the grandparent, the Athlete, the child is all the same; physical competence. The exercise differs by degree, not kind!
Now comes the fun part. I need your help in opening a gym like this. I already have a pre-approved CrossFit name which is CrossFit Dunatos. The name is the ancient Greek word for God’s power and strength. The problem is I need to pay my affiliation fee by December 21st 2017 and totals at $3000, after that I do have a spot where I want to open the gym, it will be small at first and will cost me a total of R210 000 to setup, but I do have some time for this. After that, it’s all about getting the word out and adding members to the gym.
Opening a CrossFit Gym usually costs about R1, 000, 000 to R2,500, 000 to open, so seeing as I am starting small I brought this cost way down, and have negotiated very good prices on the equipment I would need.
Everything is in place, from a web designer to the equipment, the only thing that is lacking is the funding.
Therefore, if you believe in a cause as this one, where we would like to create a healthier, more active society, who can take care of themselves better for longer, I ask that you back me so that together we can transform people’s lives through movement.
What I have given you here is only but the tip of the iceberg! You can check out Crossfit.com for yourself and check out tons of videos of how CrossFit has changed people’s lives.
If anyone wants any more info, I do have a PDF presentation prepared that I can email to you to explain a bit more of what it’s all about. Won’t take you more than 5 min to go through.
