Carrie’s Volunteering

In June 2014 I will be setting off alone to spend two weeks in Morocco. I will be volunteering at several different projects including; an orphanage, school, youth club and a home for adults with severe disabilities.

As well as this, in the summer of 2015 I will be travelling to Ethiopia for a month in order to help those in a local and extremely poor community. I'll be teaching English at a school where I hope to make a huge difference to the life of many children, as well as exploring the country and doing various treks.

I hope to volunteer at a orphanage in Ghana or Uganda at the start of 2015 and be a part of a huge project there which aims to build a primary school and an orphanage specifically for babies who have been abandoned. If I am unable to raise the money for this trip next year then I hope to spend several months working on the projects during a gap year. 

Volunteering in Tanzania in 2013 allowed me to gain a valuable insight to the lives of those living in extreme poverty. I was privileged to work with such an amazing group of children in a rural primary school and I was so inspired by the spirit which the whole community had. People had so little yet still found so much to smile and be grateful for.

I am so grateful for the life that I have been blessed with and all the opportunities that I have been given, that travelling to help people who have not been as fortunate as myself, is a passion of mine.

Within the next year I hope to take up a TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) so I will be able to gain further skills and confidence to teach English in developing countries. I hope to inspire children as many of my teachers have inspired me. I am determined to make a difference where possible.
