Why do I want to be a pilot?

Ever since I can remember I have wanted to pilot aircraft. My father told me that when an airplane used to fly over our house I would run outside and go and lie on my back and watch it fly over.

From my first experience of flying an airplane on my own I was hooked to aviation infinitely more. I started flying in the year I turned fifteen and acquired my Private Pilot License when I was seventeen.

Starting at the pre-flight inspection and walking around the aircraft is like the intro to your favorite song, stepping inside the aircraft and starting it would be the verse, taxing to the runway is the pre-chorus, taking off would be the build up to the song where you get so excited for the chorus, the part that you know word for word and you can sing at the top of your lungs, that part is when the wheels lift of the ground and you are no loner supported by the earth’s surface.

There are many reasons why I would want to become a pilot. The feeling one gets from piloting an aircraft is indescribable, the freedom, the power and that feeling that one is on top of the world is like none other, the sensation of being responsible for hundreds of passengers and an enormous piece of equipment that has evolved a whole lot over the span of a hundred plus years with precision that very few people know. Not everyone can say that they can pilot an aircraft.

Being a pilot is truly an art and a test of one’s skills, an art-form that will never be lost with me.

To finish off the question there is a quote that always drives me forward in aviation and in life, “A mile of road will only take you a mile, but a mile of runway will take you anywhere”.
